Browser Compatibility
Supported Browsers
Rippily works in all modern browsers that support WebRTC:
| Browser | Support | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome | Full | Recommended — best WebRTC performance |
| Edge | Full | Chromium-based, works like Chrome |
| Firefox | Full | Fully supported |
| Safari | Supported | Some limitations (see below) |
Recommended Browser
Google Chrome (or Chromium-based browsers like Edge) provides the most reliable experience. Chrome has the most mature WebRTC implementation and tends to handle audio/video with the fewest issues.
Known Limitations
Safari
- Screen sharing may require additional system permissions on macOS
- Push notifications have limited support on iOS Safari
- Audio autoplay policies are stricter — you may need to interact with the page before audio plays
- Older Safari versions (below 15) may have WebRTC compatibility issues
Firefox
- Screen sharing works well but the permission dialog looks different from Chrome
- Some audio processing features (echo cancellation, noise suppression) behave slightly differently
Brave / Privacy Browsers
- Brave's built-in shields may block WebRTC by default — you'll need to allow WebRTC in Brave's settings for Rippily
- Other privacy-focused browsers may require similar adjustments
Mobile Browser Support
Rippily works on mobile browsers, with some considerations:
| Platform | Browser | Support |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Chrome | Full support |
| Android | Firefox | Supported |
| iOS | Safari | Supported (all iOS browsers use Safari's engine) |
| iOS | Chrome for iOS | Supported (uses Safari's WebKit engine) |
Mobile Tips
- iOS: All browsers on iOS use Safari's WebKit engine under the hood, so Safari-specific limitations apply regardless of which browser you use
- Android: Chrome on Android provides the best experience
- Portrait mode works but landscape may give you more space for the Ripple layout
- Close other apps using your camera or microphone before joining
Minimum Requirements
- A browser released within the last 2 years
- JavaScript enabled
- WebRTC not blocked by extensions or network settings
- A working microphone and camera (for audio/video participation)
Updating Your Browser
If you're experiencing issues, make sure your browser is up to date:
- Chrome: Menu → Help → About Google Chrome
- Firefox: Menu → Help → About Firefox
- Safari: Update through macOS System Settings → Software Update
- Edge: Menu → Help and Feedback → About Microsoft Edge
