Participant Styling

Participant styling controls how people look when they occupy a Drop. You can customise borders, speaker indicators, and name badges to match your Ripple's visual theme.

Accessing Participant Styling

Participant styling is a ripple-level setting that applies to all Drops. Find it in the Ripple settings panel (not on individual Drops).

Border

The border appears around each occupied Drop (where a participant's video is showing):

  • Border colour — the colour of the ring around the video feed (default: white)
  • Border width — thickness in pixels (default: 6px)

A wider, brighter border makes participants stand out against busy backgrounds. A thinner, subtler border keeps the focus on the video.

Speaker Ring

When a participant is speaking, a coloured ring pulses around their Drop to indicate who is talking:

  • Speaker ring colour — the colour of the active-speaker indicator (default: green)

Choose a colour that contrasts well with your border colour and background.

Name Badge

Each participant's name appears in a badge below their Drop. You can style every aspect of this badge:

  • Background colour — the badge background (default: semi-transparent black)
  • Text colour — the name text colour (default: white)
  • Border colour — outline colour around the badge (default: transparent)
  • Border width — thickness of the badge border in pixels (default: 0, meaning no border)
  • Corner radius — how rounded the badge corners are (default: 6px)

Name Visibility

Control when participant names are shown:

  • Always — names are always visible below the Drop (default)
  • On hover — names only appear when someone hovers over the Drop

Use "on hover" for a cleaner look in spaces with many participants, or "always" when names are important (e.g., classrooms, networking events).

Tips

  • Match the border and badge colours to your background theme for a cohesive look
  • Use a bright speaker ring colour (green, cyan, or yellow) so it is clearly visible
  • For dark backgrounds, white borders and light badge text work well
  • For light backgrounds, try darker or coloured borders
  • Increase the badge corner radius for a pill-shaped badge, or set it to 0 for sharp corners
  • The same styling applies to all Drops in the Ripple — individual Drop customisation is done through fill colours and fill images
