Ripple Settings

Ripple settings control the overall behaviour of your space — from canvas dimensions to participant permissions. These settings apply to the entire Ripple, across all scenes.

Canvas Height

The canvas has a configurable height that defines the design surface. Elements are positioned within this reference space, and the canvas scales proportionally to fit each participant's screen. The width is fixed. Adjust the height in the global settings panel to suit your layout.

Breakouts

Control whether breakout zone audio isolation is active by default when participants join. The host can toggle breakout isolation on and off during the session regardless of this setting. See Zones for more about breakout zones.

Gallery

When all Drops are occupied, additional participants join the gallery — they can watch and participate in chat but do not have a video seat. Ripples without any Drops are gallery-only by design, which works well for storytelling flows and click-through experiences.

  • Disable gallery — prevents overflow participants from joining (default: off, gallery is enabled)
  • Maximum — cap on how many people can be in the gallery (default: unlimited). The actual limit is whichever is lower: this setting or your plan's total participant limit.

Disable the gallery if you want to strictly limit your Ripple to the number of available Drops. Owners and administrators can always enter, even when the gallery is disabled and all seats are taken.

Entry & Permissions

Entry permissions control what participants can do when they join. Participants always join with microphone and camera off for privacy — these settings control what they are allowed to enable:

  • Can unmute — whether participants can turn on their microphone (default: on)
  • Can enable camera — whether participants can turn on their camera (default: on)
  • Screen Sharing — who can share: "Everyone can share" or "Organizer only"

Gathering Presets

For convenience, you can apply a preset that configures all permissions at once:

  • Casual Hangout — everyone can talk and share
  • Workshop / Class — participants can talk, host controls sharing
  • Broadcast / Webinar — presenter only, audience watches

Chat Settings

  • Hide sidebar — hides the entire sidebar (chat, people list, and polls) for participants. Organisers still see it. (default: off)
  • Chat attachments enabled — whether file and image uploads are allowed in chat (default: on)

Join Sound

Control who hears the notification sound when someone joins or leaves:

  • None — no sound
  • Moderators — only moderators hear it
  • Everyone — all participants hear it

Location Sharing

When enabled, Wave members can see which Ripple other members are currently in. Disable this for private Ripples where you do not want participants' presence to be visible from the Wave level.

Cover Image

By default, your Ripple's listing thumbnail is generated from the start scene background. You can upload a custom cover image to override this — useful for branded or eye-catching listings.

Listed

Controls whether the Ripple appears in your Wave's public ripple list. Unlisted Ripples are still accessible via their direct URL but do not show up when browsing the Wave.

Locked Message

When the Ripple is locked, new participants wait in a lobby until the host admits them. You can customise the lock screen appearance including:

  • Header text and colour
  • Logo image
  • Call-to-action button (text, link, colour, icon)
  • Knock button colour

Custom Fonts

You can add custom fonts from Google Fonts to replace the default typeface in your Ripple. Open the Fonts section in the editor's global settings panel.

Font Library

Browse and search the Google Fonts catalogue, then add fonts to your Ripple's library. Added fonts load automatically for all participants.

Font Assignments

Assign your loaded fonts to three areas:

  • Text — text inside shape elements
  • Chat — chat messages during the session
  • Avatars — participant name badges

Leave an assignment empty to use the default font.

Custom Cursors

Replace the default mouse cursors with custom images for a themed experience:

  • Default cursor — shown over non-interactive elements
  • Interactive cursor — shown over elements with click actions
  • Drop cursor — shown over participant seats

Custom cursors are stored as 32x32 PNG images.

Import & Export

You can export your Ripple's design as a file and import it into another Ripple. This is useful for duplicating layouts, sharing templates, or backing up your work.

Tips

  • Use gathering presets as a starting point, then fine-tune individual settings
  • For large events, keep the gallery enabled with a generous cap so latecomers can still watch
  • Disable camera permissions for webinar-style events to keep bandwidth low
  • Use room lock for events with a scheduled start time — let people into the lobby early, then admit them when you are ready
