Audio & Video Controls

The Control Bar

At the bottom of the screen, the control bar has buttons for your audio and video:

  • Microphone — toggle your mic on/off. Click the small arrow next to it to select a different microphone.
  • Camera — toggle your camera on/off. Click the small arrow to select a different camera.
  • Hand Raise — raise your hand to signal the host you'd like to speak. Click again to lower it. See Hand Raising for details.
  • Share — share your screen or camera as a presenter. See Screen Sharing.
  • Broadcast (elevated roles) — broadcast your audio across all breakout zones so everyone hears you, even participants in other zones.

Your video appears as a circular feed inside the Drop (seat) you're occupying.

Permissions

What you can do depends on your capability level and the Ripple's settings:

  • Authenticated users can use microphone, camera, and screen share by default
  • Guests may have microphone and camera disabled — the creator can enable these per-Ripple
  • Speakers-only mode — when active, only speakers and moderators can unmute. You'll see an indicator when this mode is on.

If your microphone or camera button appears greyed out, it means the feature is disabled for your role in this Ripple.

Device Selection

To change your audio or video device:

  1. Click the small arrow next to the microphone or camera button
  2. Select from the list of available devices
  3. The change takes effect immediately

Join/Leave Sounds

Depending on the Ripple's settings, you may hear a sound when participants join or leave. This can be configured by the creator to play for:

  • Everyone
  • Moderators only
  • Nobody
