Privacy and Presence

Presence Levels

Your presence level controls what other people in a Wave can see about your status. You choose your preference on the Settings page (under Privacy), and it applies across all Waves you belong to.

There are three levels:

Visible (Online + Location)

Other Wave members can see:

• That you're online (green dot)
• Which Ripple you're currently in

This is the default and the most social option. It lets people find you and join you.

Online Only

Other Wave members can see:

• That you're online (green dot)

They cannot see which Ripple you're in. Useful if you want to show you're around but prefer not to broadcast your exact location.

Private

Other Wave members cannot see your status at all. You appear offline even when you're active. Use this when you want to participate without being noticed.

Wave-Level Location Sharing

Wave creators can control whether location sharing (showing which Ripple someone is in) is available at all within their Wave. This is a Wave-level setting, not a per-user setting.

If a Wave creator disables location sharing:

• Members who chose "Visible" are effectively downgraded to "Online Only" within that Wave
• The creator's setting acts as a ceiling on what's possible

Your personal preference is always respected as the maximum — it's never overridden upwards. If you choose "Private", no Wave setting can make you visible.
